Important work is being done across the campus of Michigan State University. Collaborations with other departments and faculty allow a much greater impact for the work being done in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. One such collaboration involves partnering with cryogenics experts at the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB) to establish the "MSU Cryogenic Initiative", which combines classroom teaching with hands-on technical training at FRIB. The director of the initiative, Dr. Rao Ganni, is also an adjunct professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering.
