Welcome to the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Michigan State University! We are excited to be back to in-person learning and academic exchanges.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Michigan State University has almost 1500 undergraduate students in our program – we make up over 26% of the students in the college of engineering! Our professors are conducting leading edge research with funding from organizations such as the National Science Foundation, National Institutes of Health, Department of Energy and Department of Defense, along with work sponsored by leading US Industries. This research provides opportunities for undergraduates to volunteer or work for professors who are conducting pioneering studies. Take a look at our slide presentations playing just outside the department office for the latest research activities and faculty/student news or visit the individual faculty research pages.
The department also has an outstanding external advisory board which includes both academics and industry advisors. These members provide feedback to the department on the curriculum and needs they see emerging in industry; this continuous feedback keeps ME at MSU on the forefront of education.
Feel free to visit the building and walk around! One of our points of pride is our Manufacturing Learning Center for students (Room 1240) which contains Gigabot 3D printers, mills, lathes, and other equipment – all for student class use. We have nearly 500 students use this facility each semester with the goals of tieing theoretical learning to experiential learning.
Here’s to a great year! Go green!
